The National Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5)

Course Objectives

Graduates from this course will be well prepared with:

  • The skills and knowledge for employment in the early childhood educational industry.
  • Work experience in the child care industry as a result of extensive job placement opportunities during the course.
  • A nationally recognized early childhood education, which will allow further study at an advance level.
  • A course which is designed as a pre-qualification for students contemplating a career in early childhood centres and kindergartens.
  • Strong knowledge in the fields of professional practice, educational theory, learning and development and family and community.

Regulatory Requirements of early childhood services (12 credits)
Effective Communication (8 credits)
Learning and development (21 credits)
Diversity of Family, Whanau and Community (22 credits)
Introduction to Curriculum in New Zealand (24 credits)
Professional Inquiry (12 credits)

Employment and Career Opportunities

On successful completion of this Diploma programme, our graduate students will have the experience and qualification to become teachers of early childhood education both in licensed early childhood centres or home-based / nanny services.
